A Tradition of Giving

Keith Ferrazzi and his family have made it a tradition for the past few years to spend the time twice a year traveling to Guatemala with Greenlight Giving, working with orphanages, local organizations, and social entrepreneurs who are dedicated to improving the circumstances of deserving kids.

Guatemalan Child

The opportunity to help these children, who have very little aside from their innate potential and the boundless joy and optimism of childhood, is a wonderful way to end one year and begin the next or refresh your perspective on life as Summer begins.

Our first trip to Guatemala was in 2009, followed up with a trip last winter and then another this past spring. Returning to the same villages we are able to check in with friends we met on past trips, and make new connections that will make a difference in the future.

This Aug. 15-19 we will return to the city of Antigua in Guatemala. We are looking forward to once again having a great group of individuals and families joining us and sharing this intimate experience in service. For more information visit our Join Us page.

Collaborating with Local Organizations

Each day we will embark on service trips to a local orphanage, school or other site that needs assistance. Our approach is to work with the local organizations that assist the non-profits of the 22 communities of Sacatepequez, the state where Antigua is located. We are working directly with these organizations and can assure that the money and assistance we continue to bring can be tracked going forward.

Some quick facts on Guatemala:

  • Size of Tennessee
  • Not everyone speaks Spanish; there are 24 indigenous languages spoken
  • Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion, but many have blended it with traditional Mayan rituals
  • The terrain is mostly mountainous
  • Primary exports are coffee, bananas, and sugar
  • 75 percent of the rural (mostly indigenous) population lives in extreme poverty
  • Only 30 percent of rural students finish 3rd grade

Be a Part of Something Big

Generous donations to the Greenlight Giving Foundation help to enhance the inventory of hygiene and school supplies that we bring to distribute to the families we visit. Donations are also used to fund life-changing initiatives, such as providing education and infrastructure improvements to these needy communities.

Each of our trips builds on the progress of prior visits - supporting sustainability and education in Antigua. Keith personally continues to support numerous children from different orphanages around Guatemala from previous trips - and future trips present opportunities to continue to expand that base of support.
